31 October 2022 – As part of the Embassy’s initiative to improve economic relations between the Philippines and Morocco, PH Ambassador Leslie J. Baja met with Mr. Ali Seddiki, Director-General of the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency(Agence Marocaine de Développement des Investissements et des Exportations, AMDIE) on 31 October 2022.

During the meeting, Ambassador Baja highlighted the need for Philippine and Moroccan businesses to explore investment opportunities in both countries to spur bilateral trade which has been steadily thriving in the past few years despite the major economic setbacks brought about by the pandemic. He expressed hope that PH could become one of Morocco’s gateways to Asia, underscoring investment opportunities in the fields of aerospace, automotive, electronics, copper manufacturing, and information technology and business process management.

AMDIE Director-General Seddiki welcomed PH’s openness to improve investment cooperation with Morocco and proposed the signing of a bilateral agreement on the elimination of double taxation. He also underscored the strengths of Morocco’s investment climate which makes it a conducive investment hub in Africa that also has links to Europe, the US, and other countries through its free trade agreements with bilateral and regional partners.

As Morocco works towards the adoption of a new Investment Charter which envisions to significantly increase private investments from domestic and international businesses, the Embassy hopes that the Philippines could be recognized as one of Morocco’s stable investment partners in Asia.

AMDIE is an attached agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade established in 2017 to implement Morocco’s strategy in developing domestic and foreign investment, including export of goods and services.
