PHILIPPINE NON-RESIDENT AMBASSADOR TO MAURITANIA MEETS THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN NOUAKCHOTT
4 November 2022 – In his second official visit to Nouakchott, Philippine Non-Resident Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania H.E. Leslie J. Baja had a meeting with the members of the Filipino community in Nouakchott.
Ambassador Leslie J. Baja discussed the services offered by the PH Embassy in Rabat and the newly-opened Honorary Consulate in Nouakchott to the members of the Filipino community.
Ambassador Baja expressed his appreciation to the Filipinos for taking time away from their busy schedule to attend the meeting and to welcome the Embassy delegation to Nouakchott. During the meeting, Ambassador Baja formally introduced Dr. Mohamed Ali Deyahi, the new Philippine Honorary Consul in Nouakchott, to the members of the Filipino community, and informed them about the consular services that will be offered by the newly-opened Honorary Consulate. He also briefed the community about the consular and assistance-to-nationals (ATN) services offered by the Philippine Embassy in Rabat. Afterwards, Labor Attaché Dominador A. Salanga discussed the services that may be extended by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Rabat to Filipino workers in Mauritania who would need labor and welfare-related assistance. Finally, Ambassador Baja reassured the Filipinos of the Embassy and the Honorary Consulate’s support and assistance to ensure that they will continue to enjoy favorable working and living conditions in Mauritania.

Majority of the Filipinos in Nouakchott work in salons and schools while those outside the capital work in mining sites. There are also a few second-generation Filipinos who are living in Nouakchott. According to the Filipino community leader, all FIlipino workers in the capital are properly documented with valid residence permits and work visas.
