SENEGAL VISIT STRENGTHENS BILATERAL RELATIONS
Ambassador Leslie J. Baja presented his credentials as non-resident Philippine ambassador to Senegal to Senegalese President Macky Sall in ceremonies in Dakar on 9 December. Ambassador Baja conveyed the best wishes of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and the Philippines' desire to revitalize bilateral relations. President Sall welcomed the accreditation of Ambassador Baja and expressed the hope that relations will indeed be strengthened.
Senegal is a member of the original Ministerial Committee of the Eight on Southern Philippines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It is home to about 58 Filipinos working in various sectors. A Philippine Honorary Consulate was established in March 2020.
During his visit to Dakar, Ambassador Baja also met with about 20 Filipinos at the Honorary Consulate. He assured them of the Embassy's support in whatever consular services they might need in the future. He was joined by a consular team from Rabat which processed passport renewals and notarials.
Ambassador Baja is based in Rabat, Morocco and also covers, aside from Senegal, Guinea, Mali and Mauritania. END
