RABAT PE ORGANIZES GAD EVENT ON “MAHAL MO BA ANG IYONG PUSO?”

GAD event 5 Feb

Rabat, 7 February 2023 – In its continuing agenda on Gender and Development (GAD), the Philippine Embassy in Rabat held last Sunday, 05 February its information session and discussion on, “Mahal mo ba ang iyong puso?”. This event forms part of the Embassy’s 2-part series in the lead up to next month’s “National Women’s Month” and “International Women’s Day”. The virtual (via zoom) event was led by Ms. Jo Enrica “Jean” Enriquez, Executive Director (ExDir) of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women – Asia Pacific (CATW-AP).

With an attendance of mainly women migrant workers-residents of the Filipino Community in Rabat, ExDir Jean gave a brief review of the basic gender concepts to help the participants understand how sexuality definitions (ie, history of colonization, marginalization) are affected by society instead of persons developing their rights-based and authentic concept of self, and its impact to their heart (eg, , stress, care/reproductive work, emotion), self-esteem (eg, sexual harassment, prostitution) and over-all well-being (at work, school, in media, religion, society). The almost 2-hour session was capped by one lucky “on-site participant” receiving a bottle of perfume in keeping with the spirit of the month of February as “hearts’ month” and four others receiving PH tourism give-aways.

The Embassy also took the opportunity to inform the participants of Post’s on-going overseas voters’ registration and to “save the dates” of its Piyestang Pinoy event this 18 June, a collaboration with the Filipino Community in Morocco in observance of this year’s Philippine Independence Day and Part 2 of GAD this 11 March.
