CHILDREN OF FILIPINO COMMUNITY MEMBERS JOIN THE FLORES DE MAYO FESTIVITIES
As part of the Department’s initiative to bring Filipino fiestas to our kababayans abroad, the Philippine Embassy in Rabat organized Fiesta Filipinas: Flores De Mayo for the children of Filipino community members on 30 May 2021 at the Embassy grounds.
Most of the kids who joined the event are born and raised in Morocco, and are unfamiliar with Philippine culture and tradition. Through this event, the kids were able to learn about the religious and festive facets of Flores De Mayo, as well as experience the Santacruzan parade first-hand.
The kids donned their beautiful Flores De Mayo ensemble as they paraded the Embassy garden with their flower arcs and charming smiles.
Aside from the parade, the kids also enjoyed making their own gumamela flowers, as well as the sweet and healthy treats from the Philippines like banana chips, langka tart, cashew tart, chocolate-coated polvoron, and malunggay orange juice.
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Morocco Leslie Baja said that the Filipino children in Morocco are the future of Philippine-Moroccan relations. He commended the parents for instilling these cultural values on their children which will form a strong foundation in our bilateral ties.
The Fiesta Filipinas virtual event was organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). END
