PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN RABAT CONDUCTS BAGONG PILIPINAS TOWN HALL MEETING
The Philippine Embassy in Rabat held a town hall meeting with ten leaders of the Filipino Community at the Chancery on Sunday, 3 March 2024.
During the town hall meeting, Consul Rapunzel A. Acop welcomed the FilCom leaders and spoke about the Bagong Pilipinas initiative of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which was launched on 28 January 2024.
After showing a brief video on Bagong Pilipinas, Consul Acop spoke about the President’s call for transformation of the Filipino nation, including all Filipinos all over the world, characterized by unity and by pride in being Filipino. She urged all the leaders, representing almost 5,000 Filipinos in Morocco, to take pride in their work – not just because this allows them to help their families in the Philippines, but also because their work contributes to Moroccan society.
During the town hall meeting, the Embassy took the opportunity to discuss the following matters:
- Mid-term elections in May 2025 and deadline for registration for Overseas Voting on 30 September 2024
- Deadline for submission of nominations for the Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations on 30 April 2024
- Preparations for the annual Pistang Pinoy on 9 June 2024
The Pistang Pinoy is the annual Independence Day celebration of the Filipino Community in Morocco. Filipino communities from Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and other cities are invited to set up their own booth to sell Filipino delicacies. Proceeds of the event go to a charity or beneficiary mutually decided upon by the leaders of the community and vetted by the Embassy. END
