The Philippine Embassy in Rabat participated in the annual international bazaar organized by the Cercle Diplomatique on 30 November 2024 at the Bibliothèque National du Royaume du Maroc (BNRM, National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco) in Rabat. Forty six (46) diplomatic missions in Rabat participated in the bazaar, thirty-five (35) of whom set up country booths from several Asian, African, Middle Eastern, American, and European Embassies. Other embassies contributed to the tombola and or to the food buffet.
The opening of the international bazaar was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem who visited the booths set up by diplomatic missions in Rabat that featured a wide array of handicrafts and local products.
The Philippine booth featured yakan textiles, pearl bracelets, nito, abaca, and mother of pearl home accessories, abaniko, Filipiniana purses from Aranaz and Kultura, and tourism promotion brochures. The Embassy also displayed a parol and capiz ornaments to highlight the warmth of Filipino Christmas traditions.
In its continuing economic diplomacy agenda to promote the finest of Philippine products, the Embassy also showcased banana chips, dried mangoes, Okra chips, mango chocolate balls by Cocoa Monster and Theo & Philo, chocolate-coated dried mangoes, nagaraya nuts, polvoron, chocnut, artisan chocolates from Malagos, choco mallows, pastillas, as well as cooked Filipino delicacies such as embutido with rice and sapin-sapin – all of which were well received and patronized by the guests.
In an interview by local news outlet L'Opinion des jeunes (LODJ), First Secretary and Consul Rapunzel A. Acop noted that this year marks the Philippine Embassy’s third participation in the annual diplomatic bazaar since it reopened four years ago. She also enumerated the items featured in the Philippine booth, and expressed the Embassy’s gratitude for being part of the diplomatic community which supports the bazaar’s charitable efforts in helping Moroccan nationals.
The international bazaar is an annual event organized by the Cercle Diplomatique, an organization composed of the spouses of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and representatives of international organizations accredited in Morocco. The bazaar has been part of Rabat's social calendar for over 30 years. Each year, the bazaar features local products and handicrafts and a buffet of international flavors from participating countries.
The bazaar offered a unique opportunity to experience cultural diversity, to purchase products from different parts of the world, and most importantly to support Moroccan NGOs and charities, particularly those that promote the welfare of women and children and other vulnerable groups in Morocco.
