COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE-MOROCCAN RELATIONS LAUNCHED IN RABAT

The Philippine Embassy in Rabat, Morocco announced the launch on 9 April 2025 of commemorative stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Morocco by the postal agencies of the two countries, Philippine Postal Corporation and Poste Maroc. The actual date of the anniversary falls on 10 April 2025. The stamps feature the Marrackech-Menara International Airport and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

In his remarks during the launch, Philippine Ambassador to Morocco Leslie J. Baja said that “Fifty years is a significant milestone marked by many achievements for two countries with a shared vision for peace and prosperity.” He said that relations between the two countries have significantly increased especially in the last ten years and expressed the belief that the geographical divide between the two countries has been bridged. Given the increasing bilateral contacts between the Philippines and Morocco, Ambassador Baja remarked that the choice of the two airports symbolizes how the relations between the two countries have taken off.

For his part, Poste Maroc Chief Executive Officer Amin Benjelloun Touimi said that “For half a century, Morocco and the Philippines have shared values of cooperation, mutual respect and openness to the world, and this philatelic issue perfectly reflects this spirit”. He added that the joint issue reaffirms “...the essential role of philately in bringing people together and preserving collective memory.”

The launch was held at the Musée Barid Al-Maghrib, the philatelic museum of Poste Maroc in Rabat. Another launch will be held in Manila by the Philippine Postal Corporation at the end of April featuring the Philippine version of the stamps.END
