Ambassador Leslie J. Baja signs the Guest Book of Tanger Med

21 October 2021 – As part of the Embassy’s thrust to bolster bilateral relations between the Philippines and Morocco, PH Ambassador to Morocco Leslie J. Baja visited the Tanger Med Complex in Tangier, Morocco on 21 October 2021. He was received by Mr. Khalid Samir, Port Commander and Ms. Rajae Elayachi, Container Operations Manager of Tanger Med.

Tanger Med Complex is a global logistics gateway located on the Strait of Gibraltar, a second crossing point of world trade on global scale, and it is at the crossroads of major maritime routes with more than 100,000 ships transiting the port annually. As the first transshipment port in the Mediterranean and the leading container port in Africa for three consecutive years (2018-2020), Tanger Med is a symbol of Morocco’s dynamic development.

Tanger Med provides regular services to more than 180 ports and 70 countries in five (5) continents and employs approximately 90,000 workers who are focused on industrial and logistics activities carried out by international leading players in aeronautics, automotive, textile, logistics and electronics sectors. Aside from facilitating international trade, Tanger Med also has a human development foundation established in 2007 that contributes to education, training, health, and socio-cultural initiatives through 816 development projects which helped 495,547 direct beneficiaries.

Considering the large volume of transshipment capacity of Tanger Med and its strategic location in terms of connectivity and access to diverse markets, it is high time for the Philippines to revive its link to Tanger Med and to seize its potential as a gateway for PH products to enter the African market and as an alternative route for PH products going to Europe.
