10 November 2021 – Philippine Ambassador to Morocco Leslie J. Baja was interviewed by Moroccan broadcasting network Société Nationale de Radiodiffusion et de Télévision (SNRT) today. SNRT is a state-owned broadcasting network in Morocco established in 1956. It runs several television channels, four nationwide radio stations alongside several regional stations, as well as a website that features blogs, news stories, and live feeds of the network’s radio and television channels.

The Ambassador highlighted that the Philippines and Morocco share 46 years of friendly bilateral relations which the Embassy hopes to improve and expand within the next few years. One of the main thrusts of the Embassy is to deepen political relations between the Philippines and Morocco through the signing of bilateral agreements, organizing high-level visits of Philippine and Moroccan officials, and arranging bilateral consultation meetings between their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

He said that the Embassy also aims to introduce Philippine international brands and products and investment opportunities to Moroccan companies. The virtual Business-to-Business Matching Event for Franchise Brands to be held in November 2021 will give Moroccan companies the opportunity to be acquainted with Philippine franchise brands. The Embassy also hopes to increase the awareness of Moroccan consumers of Philippine products by bringing in canned tuna, dried fruits, and coconut products, to name a few.

He also underscored that the Filipino workers and migrants in Morocco are the better ambassadors of the Philippines who serve as bridge between Morocco and the Philippines.

Aside from the political and economic spheres, the Philippines looks forward to signing the Air Services Agreement which will increase tourism figures, facilitate people-to-people exchanges, and improve cultural familiarity between Filipinos and Moroccans. Cooperation in the field of education is also one of the low hanging fruits that can be pursued, giving Filipino and Moroccan students a chance to diversify their research and academic opportunities abroad.

The Embassy will continue to engage with SNRT and other similar media outlets to promote Philippine interests in Morocco. END
