WINNING LOGO TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF PHILIPPINE-MOROCCAN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
18 September 2023, Rabat – The Embassies of the Philippines in Rabat and Morocco in Manila simultaneously announced today the winning logo and artist in their joint logo design contest for the commemoration of fifty (50) years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025. The contest was opened to both Filipinos and Moroccans.
The winning logo consists of the Philippines’ “haribon/eagle” and Morocco’s “barbary/lion” that make up the image of “50”. While the eagle is known as “the ruler of the skies” and the lion as “the ruler of the earth”, the two creatures are symbols of strength, courage and power. Both images are facing the forward direction and eyes horizontally aligned to depict the idea of unison in achieving goals beneficial to both countries. The logo’s elements and vibrant colors represent the colors of the national flags of the two countries and the gold color on top represents the “golden anniversary” of its diplomatic partnership.
The logo was designed by John Atedio Bermejo, a freelance artist who graduated from the University of the East. He has participated in and won numerous logo design contests.
The Philippines and Morocco established diplomatic relations on 10 April 1975. Morocco opened its Embassy in Manila in 2017 while the Philippines reopened its Embassy in Rabat in 2020. In March 2022, then Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr visited Morocco to further enhance ties. Numerous activities are being lined up to celebrate this momentous anniversary starting with the logo design contest. END
